Three GymHawks Earn All-Big Ten Honors

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Three University of Iowa women's gymnasts -- Lanie Snyder, Nikki Youd, and Nicole Chow -- earned second team All-Big Ten honors, the conference office announced Monday. This is the second consecutive conference honor for Snyder, while Youd and Chow made the list for the first time in their careers.

The selections were determined by calculating each individual's regional qualifying score (RQS). These are comprised of taking the six best performances in an event, dropping the highest score, and averaging the remaining five. Three of these scores must be from away meets.

Snyder garners her second-straight conference honor. The Omaha, Nebraska, native ranks fifth in the Big Ten on floor with an RQS of 9.895. Her season high score of 9.925 came against Southeast Missouri State on March 2. This score ties the 10th-best score in Iowa history. The senior earned six floor titles this season.

Youd led Iowa on vault with a season-high 9.850 against Ohio State on Jan. 17. She then had a season-best 9.900 on beam at Southern Utah (Feb. 23) on her way to her first All-Big Ten honor. The Panama City, Florida, native is eighth in the Big Ten on beam with an RQS of 9.870. Youd registered four beam titles and one vault title during the 2018 regular season.

Chow competed in the all-around in eight meets during the regular season. The Port Coquitlam, B.C., native is 10th in the conference on floor with an RQS of 9.860. She holds Iowa’s season best on bars (9.900) and shares the season record of 9.900 on beam with Youd. The junior also earned four beam titles and one all-around title throughout the season.

The GymHawks are back in action at the Big Ten Championships on March 24 in Champaign, Illinois at the State Farm Center. Iowa is set to compete in Session II at 4 p.m. (CT).
