Doocy Selected College Sports Madness B1G Player of the Week

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa softball’s Allison Doocy was selected as the College Sports Madness Big Ten Player of the Week, it was announced Monday.

Doocy was honored as the co-Big Ten Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon for her performance at the Grand Canyon Invitational, where she was 2-0 in the circle on March 10-11.

Doocy recorded a perfect 0.00 ERA and allowed just seven hits and 3 walks in 11.0 innings pitched. The sophomore led Iowa to a 12-1 win against Grand Canyon on Saturday, but her performance in the Hawkeyes’ 2-0 victory over Georgetown was one for the record books.

Doocy racked up a personal-best 15 strikeouts in 7.0 innings pitched against the Hoyas on Sunday, with the final 10 outs of the game coming from her hand. The 15 strikeouts marks the most in a single game by any Hawkeye since 2009 (Brittany Weil vs. Kent State, Feb. 13). Doocy also allowed just four hits and earned her second shutout of the season.

Doocy and the Hawkeyes take the field again tonight in a rubber match against Grand Canyon. First pitch is slated for 9 p.m. (CT) at the GCU Softball Stadium.
