3 Hawkeyes Set For NCAAs

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Three University of Iowa women’s swimming and diving student-athletes -- sophomores Thelma Strandberg and Hannah Burvill and freshman Jayah Mathews -- will compete at the 2018 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships from March 15-17 at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.

 

Mathews will compete off the 1-meter springboard in the diving well on Thursday, while Burvill will swim the 200-yard freestyle on Friday. Strandberg will conclude the championships Saturday, diving off the platform.

 

Strandberg qualified for her second straight NCAA Championships off the platform after placing eighth with 498.20 points at the 2018 Zone D Diving Championships.

 

Burvill currently ranks 22nd in the nation in the 200-yard freestyle after swimming to a time of 1:44.42 in the lead leg of the 800-freestyle relay at the 2018 Big Ten Championships. The time ranks first in the Iowa record books.

 

Mathews will make her NCAA Championships debut after qualifying via a ninth place finish at the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships. The Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, native, dove to a score of 568.00 off the 1-meter springboard at the Zone meet.
