A Number of Construction Projects Underway

As spring approaches you may also see more construction projects throughout eastern Iowa.

On March 12, 2018, Cottage Grove Avenue South East will be closed between Lincolnshire Drive and Cottage Glen Road Southeast in Cedar Rapids.

That'll be closed for the next five days for sanitary sewer man-hole repair.

This is also near Washington High School so crews will be out with repairs while spring break is in session.

Also starting on Monday in Cedar Rapids, O Avenue will be closed to through traffic between 16th Street Northwest to 13th Street Northwest.

Commuters will notice detour signs posted in the area, the best route to take is on F Avenue.

The full project stretches from 16th Street to Ellis Boulevard Northwest.

This week they are starting work on storm and sanitary sewer improvements.

In Cedar Rapids commuters will also notice on Monday morning a closure on Memorial Drive Southeast between Bever Avenue and Virginia Drive Southeast.

The project will start with water main work before moving to pavement improvements.

Drivers can take Forrest or 32nd Street as an alternate route to get around that area.

In another part of Linn County, work is underway on a bridge project on Spencers Grove Road about 2 miles West of Walker.

Spencers Grove Road will be closed to all traffic at the bridge location. Work should be completed sometime in May or June.

In Iowa City, the Intersection of Gilbert Street and Kimball road will be closed for about two months and It's part of the Iowa City Gateway Project.

Construction workers will be replacing the stormwater culvert under Gilbert Street and install a new sanitary sewer, water main, an additional storm sewer intakes.

The city will also be adding new pavement on Gilbert Street.

And in Iowa County crews are now starting to work on the bridge that goes over Honey Creek on 140th Street in Belle Plaine.

The bridge has been closed for over a year now in order to replace a 100-year old bridge.
