CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- Spring break begins next week and that means some teens will be taking it easy, but the Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation say it's also a great time for them to start applying for summer jobs.
The biggest challenge is really getting the word out about all the open jobs to make sure they fill all those spots.
In their aquatics department alone, they are looking to hire 120 lifeguards for all the pools in Cedar Rapids.
They also need at least 50 cashier and concession workers.
Noelridge Park's Pool won't be open until Memorial Day weekend but they are hiring now.
Carolyn Hamilton, the aquatic supervisor for Cedar Rapids pools say those lifeguards will need additional training and certifications and that can take time.
"Getting a certification for American Red Cross lifeguard, it's not a difficult thing, but it's not an easy thing either you need to be comfortable in the water, there's a pre-test that you have to take to make sure that you're ready to take the test to take the class," Carolyn Hamilton, City of Cedar Rapids Aquatic Supervisor.
There's also a ton of different jobs open in other departments within parks and recreation.
They are looking for people who love animals to help out at Old MacDonald Farm and they're also to hire people at Cedar Rapids Golf.
The aquatic center tells us they're offering competitive pay since of their positions start at 8.50 an hour or higher. The applications are open online so people can start applying now.
They are looking to fill 300 positions within the City of Cedar Rapids Parks and Rec.
