CLINTON, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- A Clinton man accused of animal neglect is facing 20 additional charges, including failure to have a breeding permit.

Prosecutors on February 27 charged 34-year-old Thomas Mauk with nine counts of animal neglect. On Monday, March 5, they added nine counts of failure to license a dog, nine counts of failure to vaccinate against rabies, one count of failure to report a dog bite, and one count of failure to have a breeding permit.

Mauk is due in court March 8.

Prosecutors have also charged 33-year-old Teresa Muhs with nine counts of animal neglect.

County records say she is the homeowner of the home at 422 Fourth Avenue North where police, Humane Society workers, and volunteers rescued eight dogs and found one dead on February 21. Police said the house did not have power, heat, or water. They said the dogs were in poor condition, covered in blood and feces.
