Thomas Named B1G Field Athlete of Championships

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Senior Jahisha Thomas was named the Big Ten Women’s Field Athlete of the Championships following her performance at Big Ten Indoor Championships, the conference announced Tuesday.

Thomas won the program’s first Big Ten title in the long jump and second in the triple jump at the Big Ten Indoor Championships. The London, England, native extended her school records in both events, recording a mark of 13.22 meters (43 feet, 4.5 inches) in the triple jump and 6.42 meters (21 feet, .75 inches) in the long jump. Those marks rank 10th and ninth in the country, respectively.

Thomas became the sixth individual to win both the long jump and triple jump in Big Ten history. She also tied for the third longest jump in Big Ten history and the eighth longest triple jump in Big Ten history.

In addition, Nathan Mylenek and Mallory King were named Iowa’s Sportsmanship Award winners.

Select Hawkeyes will represent Iowa at the NCAA Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas, March 9-10.
