Iowa Rounds Out B1G Championships


COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The University of Iowa women's swimming and diving team wrapped up competition at the 2018 Big Ten Women's Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday.  The Hawkeyes finished 11th with 338 points.

 

Iowa's 400-meter freestyle relay highlighted the Hawkeyes final day in Columbus.  The relay posted a 10th place finish to cap the championships with the quartet of freshman Sarah Schemmel, sophomores Hannah Burvill and Allyssa Fluit, and senior Carly O'Brien finishing with a time of 3:20.77.  It was the fourth-fastest time in school history.

 

Individually, sophomore Thelma Strandberg posted Iowa's top finish on Saturday, placing 19th off the platform.  She finished with 248.80 points.

 

Burvill finished 20th in the 100 fly with a time of 49.72 seconds; she swam a 49.58 in the prelims.  Senior Shea Hoyt also tallied a 20th place finish in the 200 breast in 2:13.55, while freshman Kelsey Drake was 22nd in the 200 fly in 2:00.20.  Senior Meghan Lavell placed 24th in the 200 back in 1:59.96; she had a time of 1:57.22 in the prelims.

 

Michigan claimed the team title with 1,465 points, while Indiana (1152.50) and Ohio State (1094.50) rounded out the top three.
