CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- A judge has sentenced two Linn County men to more than a decade in prison for stealing 60 firearms.
John Gillespie, 19 of Cedar Rapids, plead guilty to two counts of theft from a federal firearms licensee on August 31, 2017. Jeremy Reynolds, 18 and from Hiawatha, plead guilty to the same charges on September 1, 2017.
Gillespie and Reynolds admitted to stealing 60 guns from two gun shops in June of last year. They said they broke into America's Second Amendment Firearms in Cedar Rapids on June 3, 2017 and Midwest Shooting in Hiawatha on June 16, 2017.
Law enforcement arrested Reynolds shortly after the Hiawatha robbery. And authorities caught Gillespie several hours later after finding him in a car with a duffle bag full of guns from Midwest Shooting. Police say he tried to get rid of one of the guns stolen from the Cedar Rapids gun store in the back of their squad car.
