New Braunfels, Texas – Crews from the University of Iowa rowing team scrimmaged against crews from Old Dominion on Thursday and then faced Old Dominion and SMU on Sunday.
“The scrimmaging went quite well,” said UI head coach Andrew Carter. “It was terrific to have SMU join the event this year and we've enjoyed seeing ODU for the past three years for this early-season opportunity.
“The racing showed that we've made some good progress over the past year and even the past month. Our crews did a nice job being focused on their tasks and maintained really good composure throughout some hard pieces against ODU and SMU. I really appreciated seeing their full commitment to each and every race and it was fun to see how keen they were to understand where they stand after each one. Everyone is pretty clear on what it will take to be competitive in the Big Ten and beyond, so they're all very interested in any measurement they can get.”
Iowa opens the spring season at the Pac 12 Invitational on March 31.
