The parent company of Younkers has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Bon Ton Stores says they're exploring a sale of all or part of the company.
The announcement was made on Sunday. They operate 260 stores in 24 states. The company says holiday sales fell as more shoppers were spending their money online.
As reported last week, two Younkers stores in Eastern Iowa will close later this year including the Younkers at College Square Mall in Cedar Falls and the Younkers at Westdale Mall in Cedar Rapids.
Liquidation sales have already begun for both stores.
