Jury Finding CR Man Guilty on Gun Charges

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- A federal jury has found a Cedar Rapids man guilty for charges related to throwing a pistol and a bag of marijuana into the woods after a car crash in Cedar Rapids.

The jury decided 39-year-old David Heard was guilty of possession of a firearm as a felon and possession of marijuana, among other related charges.

Investigators said on July 30, 2017, Heard ran a red light and crashed into another car at the Glass Road and Interstate 380 interchange. They said he drove off to a secluded spot on Redbud Road and tossed bag of marijuana and a gun into nearby brush. But someone driving by saw him do it, and called police.
