One Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting

BREMER COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- At 8:31 p.m. the Floyd County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a person with a gun pointed at his head in Floyd at Love's Truck Stop.

Before officers got to the truck stop, the person in the vehicle left, driving southbound on Highway 218.

At 8:49 p.m., an officer in Nashua stopped a car speeding on Highway 218 at 104 mph.

When the officer stopped the car, the driver got out and pointed a handgun at his head.

The Bremer County Sheriff's Office, Chickasaw County Sheriff's Office, Nashua Police Department and the Iowa State Patrol responded, and negotiated with the driver.

After negotiating for about 40 minutes, the driver fired a shot from inside the car.

Officers approached the car and found the driver wasn't hurt.

The driver resisted the officer's trying to take him into custody and drove forward hitting an officer.

Two officers at the scene fired shots and hit the suspect.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is still investigating the incident.

The name has not been released of the suspect who died, as relatives are still being notified.
