Hodges Leads Iowa at Windy City Invitational

CHICAGO – The University of Iowa men’s gymnastics team finished third at the Windy City Invitational with a team score of 393.200 on Saturday night at Navy Pier.   MEET HIGHLIGHTS

Senior Austin Hodges won the parallel bars with a score 14.250, and broke his own school record on pommel horse with a 14.700.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

 

High Bar: Freshman Bennet Huang made his debut for the Hawkeyes, earning a fifth-place finish with a score of 13.350. Junior Rogelio Vazquez finished seventh with a score of 13.150

 

Floor: Huang led the way on floor, notching a 10th-place finish with a score of 13.250.

 

Pommel Horse: Senior Austin Hodges recorded a runner-up finish on pommel horse (14.700). He was followed by sophomore Nick Merryman in third (14.200) and senior Elijah Parsells rounded it out in fifth (13.850).

 

Rings: Vazquez notched his second top-10 finish of the night with a 13.500 (5th). Senior Dylan Ellsworth and freshman Addison Chung notched eighth (13.350) and ninth-place finishes (13.250), respectively

 

Vault: Ellsworth led the way with a runner-up finish (14.550). Huang continued his impressive debut with a 14.050 to finish seventh. 

 

Parallel Bars: Hodges took home the crown with a score of 14.250. Ellsworth recorded his third top-10 finish of the night with a score of 13.700 (4th), while Merryman notched a seventh-place finish (13.500)  

All-Around: Ellsworth finished third in the all-around with a score of 78.600. Huang and Merryman finished seventh (76.000) and eighth (75.150) respectively.

 

UP NEXT

The Hawkeyes return to Chicago to face UIC on Jan. 21. Competition is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. (CT) at the UIC Pavilion.
