ICCSD Responds to Hate Fliers

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- The Iowa City Community School District is responding to a recent incident where someone left fliers promoting racial discrimination on doorsteps of Iowa City homes.

The fliers were from the neo-Nazi organization National Alliance declaring "love Your Race."

The fliers have been reported to the Southern Poverty Law Center which tracks hate incidents and hate groups around the country, and the Iowa City Police Department.

Thursday, the school district released a statement saying "This hate incident demonstrates that our work to promote racial understanding and acceptance is ongoing, and we must remain steadfast in spreading awareness and knowledge about racism and social injustice."

The district is hosting "A Call to Action" Community Town Hall Meeting on January 15 as part of a series of events celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The town hall will take place at noon at Grant Wood Elementary School.
