IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa junior Megan Gustafson has been named to the Big Ten Player of the Week Honor Roll, the conference office announced Monday. The weekly award is the 15th of her career.
The Port Wing, Wisconsin, native has earned nine straight conference honors. She was named the Big Ten Player of the Week on Nov. 13, Dec. 4, Dec. 18, Dec. 26, and Jan. 2, and was named to the Player of the Week Honor Roll on Nov. 20, Nov. 27, and Dec. 11. She is one Player of the Week award from tying Ohio State's Jantel Lavender for the most Player of the Week awards in a single season (6, 2010-11). Gustafson is one of five Big Ten student-athletes to garner five Player of the Week awards in a single season.
Gustafson averaged 24.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocks, 3.0 assists, and shot 68 percent from the field and 93.8 percent from the free throw line in a pair of Big Ten contests last week.
She netted 15 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the field and added 15 rebounds at No. 13/13 Maryland on Jan. 4. She also added four blocks and three assists against the Terrapins.
On Jan. 7, Gustafson registered a game-high 34 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and shot 70.6 percent from the field and 1.000 percent from the free throw line in Iowa’s road win at Illinois. She was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line and made 12-of-17 shots from the field (70.6 percent) to lead Iowa to its 15th win of the season.
Gustafson is currently ranked in the top-10 in the nation in nine categories. She leads the nation in double-doubles (16) and field goals made (150), ranks second in field goal percentage (68.8), fourth in total points (386) and rebounds (214), seventh in rebounds per game (12.6) and points per game (22.7), eighth in defensive rebounds per game (8), and ninth in free throws made (86).
Gustafson and the No. 18/17 Hawkeyes return to action on Saturday, Jan. 13, hosting Purdue. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. (CT) in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
