WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- Sears Holdings on Thursday announced it is closing the Sears store in at Crossroads Mall in Waterloo.
According to a news release, the store will close in early April. A liquidation sale could begin as early as January 12.
Sears said it notified employees Thursday and the company will offer severance to eligible employees. They will also be able to apply for open positions at other Kmart or Sears stores.
The company is also closing two Kmart stores in Iowa, one in Red Oak in southwest Iowa, the other in the Des Moines suburb of Urbandale.
The Iowa stores are among 103 Sears and Kmart stores the company on Thursday announced are closing. The company has shuttered more than 400 locations in the past year, leaving it with about 875 stores.
Sears Holdings said it is closing the stores because they are not profitable.
