CRFD Respond to Monday Night Fire

Cedar Rapids Firefighters responded to a mobile home fire Monday night.

According to a news release, the fire started around 6 p.m. at 205 Mitchell Street SW.

Police arrived first and reported smoke coming out the door of the home and all occupants were out.

Firefighters found heavy smoke and moderate heat inside the home, and quickly put out the fire. Fire crews searched the home to make sure no one was inside, then cut a vent hole in the roof to help remove smoke.

Firefighters said the owners had left the home for a short time and discovered the fire when they returned.

No one was injured, but the occupants were displaced due to moderate damage to the home. The Red Cross is assisting with temporary housing.

Firefighters are still determining the cause of the fire.
