IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa diver Jayah Mathews was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, it was announced Wednesday by the Big Ten office.
The Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, native led the Hawkeyes against Minnesota on Oct. 27, posting a score of 305.70 on the 3-meter to finish third. She leads Iowa with an NCAA Zone Standard score of 315.00 this season. Mathews also registered a 278.90 score off the 1-meter to finish fifth against the Golden Gophers.
Mathews is the second Iowa women's diver and fourth Hawkeye to earn a weekly honor this season. Junior Jacintha Thomas was tabbed as the Big Ten Diver of the Week on Oct. 11, while Joe Myhre and Anton Hoherz earned Big Ten Swimmer and Big Ten Diver and Freshman of the Week honors, respectively.
The Hawkeyes return to action Friday, traveling to West Lafayette, Indiana, for a Big Ten dual at Purdue beginning at 4 p.m. (CT).
