Head Coach Randy Hasenbank on the Hawkeye Men
“It was exciting to see the Hawkeyes battling up front. The men were led by Nate (Mylenek) again. That front runner is crucial. He gets us off to a good start, but it still takes five for the team score. Dan Soto and Bailey are competing at a high level and with confidence. Our four and five were Luke and Brandon and they continue to impress me.”
“Our goal was to come here and battle for a title. While it’s only a regular season meet, we still have a lot of young guys that need to learn to compete. They did that today.”
Women’s Red Race
- The Women finished in front of three Midwest regionally ranked opponents including, No. 3 Missouri, No. 9 Kansas State, and No. 14 Illinois State.
- Shine finished in second place running a personal best time of 20:47.3, and is now 9th all-time for the Hawkeyes in the 6,000 meters.
- Senior Madison Waymire was Iowa’s second finisher placing 24th (21:36.8), and senior Marta Gonzalez finished 35th as Iowa’s third finisher with a time of 21:49.2.
- Sophomore Julie Hollensbe as Iowa’s fourth finisher (46th overall), and ran her 6k personal best with a time of 22:00.3.
Head Coach Randy Hasenbank on the Hawkeye Women
“Andrea Shine was just terrific today. We talk about being fearless out there, and she is not afraid to stick her nose in there and compete. She’s fun to watch. Madison (Waymire) has done a real good job executing her last two races and it is working. It was also good to have Marta back to form, and I thought Julie ran a big race today.”
“We need to keep closing the gap between our four and five runner. That will be a big key for us moving forward.”
