Two Pets Die in Intentionally-Set Fire

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- Cedar Rapids firefighters Monday night responded to a fire at a residence on the southeast side they said someone intentionally set.

According to a news release, it happened around 9:15 p.m. at 3237 Dalewood Avenue SE. A neighbor reported smoke and flames coming from the house, and fire crews found heavy fire from the home when they arrived. Crews spent about an hour to contain the fire.

The owner was out of state, but firefighters made contact with her while on scene.

They said two pets died in the fire, but a neighbor had been able to rescue another dog from the home. No one was home at the time of the fire, and firefighters did not report any injuries.

Investigators said the fire caused significant damage to the house.
