Alliant Energy utility workers are returning to Iowa, after helping restore power to Hurricane-battered southern Florida.

Alliant Spokesman Justin Foss tells WHO Radio News they sent more than 200 workers from Iowa and Wisconsin to help in the massive power restoration effort.

Foss says their employees worked long days in the oppressive Florida heat and humidity, starting in Miami, then moving to Naples, Florida.

He says  residents were surprised to learn the workers had come from so far away, and showed them their appreciation by offering food, water, hugs, and their gratitude.

Foss says many of their workers admit they enjoyed Cuban coffee, when they were able to take a break, and are bringing some back to Iowa.

Line workers from MidAmerican Energy and Iowa electric cooperatives have also been part of the post hurricane restoration effort in the southeastern United States.
