IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa women’s tennis players Zoe Douglas and Elise van Heuvelen each appeared in the singles and doubles preseason rankings released Tuesday by the International Tennis Association.
Douglas, a senior from Papworth Everard, England, is ranked No. 92 in singles, matching the highest ranking of her career. She was 16-9 last season playing at the top two positions in Iowa’s singles lineup.
Van Heuvelen cracked the singles rankings for the first time in her career. Van Heuvelen was a first team All-Big Ten honoree last season and was named Conference Freshman of the Year following a 13-9 record at the top of Iowa’s singles lineup.
The pair debuted at No. 42 in the ITA preseason doubles rankings. Douglas and van Heuvelen were 10-2 in doubles last season, climbing as high as No. 80 in the doubles rankings.
Iowa opens their fall season this weekend at the Tribe Invite on the campus of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. Competition begins Friday at 1 p.m. (CT).
