STANFORD, Calif. -- The 17th-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team fell to No. 13 Stanford on Friday night, 3-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawkeyes got on the board first, scoring in the fourth minute. Senior Mallory Lefkowitz got the scoring started for Iowa, tallying her first goal of the season to give Iowa a 1-0 lead. Stanford added two goals in the first half to take a 2-1 lead into halftime. Iowa tied the score in the 45th minute. Lefkowitz scored her second goal of the match off of a rebound to make it 2-2. The Cardinals scored in the 62nd minute to take a 3-2 lead. Stanford held on to the lead for the last eight minutes to hold on for the win.

“I was very proud of the effort and grit we displayed in some adverse conditions,” said UI head coach Lisa Cellucci. “Unfortunately, we lost the turnover battle and we need to value the ball more in order to finish these games. I believe in this team and we still have a lot of great opportunities in front us.”
