The Boy Scouts of America, Hawkeye Area Council has officially begun its Annual Scouting for Food Campaign, that started on October 12 and ends October 19. Scout Troops and Packs took to the streets on the week of October 12th by distributing door hangers to over 150,000 homes in Iowa City, Cedar Rapids and surrounding communities.
We ask all citizens to please fill a bag with non-perishable food items (no expired items, frozen foods, or glass containers) and place outside your front door for pickup by 8:00 AM on October 19.If your bag is inadvertently not collected by 12:00 PM, please deliver it to HACAP or your local food pantry.All food items collected will be donated to the HACAP Food Reservoir and other local food agencies in 7 counties in Eastern Iowa.
Last year, the Scouting for Food Drive brought in a total of 88,490 pounds of food from Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and its neighboring areas which translates to over 73,742 meals to be served. We ask for your help to make this another successful year for those who need it most during this upcoming winter season.
The Boy Scouts, Hawkeye Area Council serves 1,500 youth in Benton, Linn, Jones, Iowa, Johnson, Cedar, and Washington counties in Iowa. The Council, supported by 2,000 volunteers, is headquartered in Cedar Rapids, IA. The HACAP Food Reservoir distributes food to 169 non-profit partner agencies in Benton, Cedar, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn and Washington counties.
