The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for all of Iowa except for the northernmost tiers of counties. It runs from noon to 9pm today. The NWS says, "Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances."
We're looking at heat index values up to 105 degrees, with isolated areas plus 105 degrees. Later in the weekend, we're looking at the possibility for heavy rain and some severe weather. According to the NWS, "Shower and storm chances will be gradually increasing across the area over the second half of the weekend and the start of the new work along a sagging cold front. The threat for severe weather is low, but gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall are possible."
