Recently, on my Morning Show, I was talking about what you and your family might be doing for Memorial Day weekend. After all, this is the unofficial start of Summer and that's worth celebrating, right? After starting with the lighter side of Memorial Day, I began getting texts and messages from listeners reminding me of the real reason behind Memorial Day...and I wasn't done with my segment. I'm glad so many of you note the day and the weekend properly, with appropriate reverence for those who gave the full measure for the freedom of this country.
At the same time, these heroes paid the price for us to celebrate these freedoms, which include parades, flag ceremonies, picnic, family and neighborhood get-togethers and concerts. Some of us forget that the price paid, which does include solemn recognition, also includes honoring them through festivities that we might not have been able to engage in if our freedom had been lost.
So, as you and your peeps gather together this weekend, take a moment to remind the younger ones of the reason we are gathering in the first place. And then, celebrate appropriately...we can do so because of their sacrifice.
