Red Cross Shelter Serving Storm Victims In Downtown Cedar Rapids

It's day 8 without power for tens of thousands in the Cedar Rapids area. The American Red Cross is ready to serve anyone who needs food, a shower, a place to cool down or a place to stay.

The shelter has been set up in the Veterans Memorial Building. "They have shelter in the basement and they are doing overflow in the colliseum, taking people 24-7", Terri Van Dorston with the City of Cedar Rapids tells WMT Radio.

"They are serving two meals a day. There are showers, the power is on, the air conditioning is on," she says.

There are dozens of families currently being sheltered, but there is plenty of room for more, with social distancing set up between families.
