Eastern Iowans are digging out this morning after the latest round of winter weather dumped more than eight inches of snow in parts of Eastern Iowa.

Many school districts called off classes Tuesday, a familiar routine during one the more active winter weather seasons Eastern Iowa has experienced.
The Iowa Department of Transportation has more than 450 plows deployed to clear state roads and highways. Many city street crews have worked through the night to clear city roads. Locally, most cities are reporting that main roads are mostly snow covered and secondary streets are completely snow covered and, in some cases, are impassable.
First Alert Storm Team Meteorologist Justin Gehrts said that blowing snow will be a concern as the morning progresses, especially in rural areas.
Law enforcement agencies report that they're dealing with cars going into ditches. Dispatchers in several communities asked people to stay home if possible this morning. Tow bans have been put into place for many counties across the state as of 4:40 a.m..
