Cedar River Slowly Falling

THE CEDAR RIVER AT CEDAR RAPIDS CRESTED YESTERDAY AT 17.94 FEET. THAT’S NEARLY TWO FEET ABOVE MAJOR FLOOD STAGE. 

THE RIVER IS GOING BACK DOWN VERY SLOWLY, AND WILL NOT BE SAFE TO BOAT ON UNTIL 7 AM SATURDAY, WHEN IT DROPS BELOW 13 FEET. 

THE CREST OF 17.94 FEET WILL PUT THIS FLOOD IN THE TOP 15 OF HIGH WATER EVENTS ON THE RIVER.

THE CITY OF CEDAR RAPIDS SAYS DESPITE THE CEDAR RIVER BEING IN MAJOR FLOOD STAGE, THINGS ARE GOING RELATIVELY WELL.  NO WATER DAMAGE HAS BEEN REPORTED AND THE METHODS OFFICIALS USED TO PROTECT THE CITY ARE WORKING WELL.

PARTS OF 10 ROADS CLOSE TO THE RIVER REMAIN CLOSED DUE TO WATER OVER ROADWAYS.
