HIAWATHA, Iowa (KCRG) - The Hiawatha Police Department has charged 22-year-old Charles Griffin from Hiawatha with three counts of attempted murder and one count of going armed with intent after shots were fired Monday.
Police responded to a report of shots fired at 69 East Clark Street in the parking lot behind the address at 8:47 p.m. Monday.
Police Chief Dennis Marks said more than 20 shots were fired and some of them hit a vehicle three people were in.
Marks said the people in the vehicle weren't hurt from gunshots, but one had some minor cuts and scrapes from what was assumed to be broken glass from a shattered window. The person with minor injuries wasn't treated for them.
An investigation found the three people in the vehicle were intended targets of the gunfire.
On September 18 at 12:42 a.m. during a search warrant was issued at 95 East Clark Street authorities recovered items related to the investigation.
At around 1 p.m. Tuesday authorities were notified Griffin had gone to the Linn County Jail on an unrelated charge. He was then interviewed and charged regarding the shots fired incident.
