CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- On Wednesday, June 13, 2018 the city will unveil the memorial sculpture West Side Rising and Gateway and Memorial Plaza in the Time Check neighborhood of Cedar Rapids.
If you make your way down there, you'll notice stainless steel beams featuring upright and tilted homes.
That's designed to honor all the people in the neighborhood who lost everything during the flood and had to rebuild.
The Northwest Neighborhood Association created that sculpture and Jim Novak from Novak Design Group designed it.
The city created the plaza portion featuring benches and a sloping concrete wall to reflect the high water mark back in 2008.
The city says this memorial site reflects all the hope and resilience that came out of the Flood of 2008.
A ribbon cutting for West Side Rising will be happening at 1 p.m. and the Northwest Gateway & Memorial Plaza dedication is set for for 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
The memorial site is located at O Avenue and 6th Street NW.
