CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- A Waterloo man has been sentenced to 43 months in prison for unlawfully possessing a gun.
38-year-old Wayne Jones II was given the sentencing after pleading guilty on October 15, 2017, to one count of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition as an unlawful drug user and convicted felon.
A warrant found Jones was a daily user of marijuana. FBI agents found a loaded handgun, amunition, and other items in his apartment.
Authorities also found text messages and photos relating to drug activity, photos of firearms, and a picture of an ISIS flag on his phone.
Jones was arrested at the time for an outstanding warrant in Wisconsin after he violated terms of probation.
Jones was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Linda R. Reade on May 9.
After serving time in jail, Jones will have to serve three years of supervised release.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Richard L. Murphy and investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
