Allgeyer Named B1G Pitcher of the Week

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Redshirt junior Nick Allgeyer has been named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week, it was announced Monday by the league office.  It is the first honor of Allgeyer's career.

The St. Louis native earned the distinction after posting his seventh straight quality start in Iowa's 7-1 victory at Nebraska on April 13.  The southpaw scattered five hits and didn't allow an earned run over seven innings. He finished with four strikeouts.

Allgeyer has posted a quality start each week, dating back to Week 2 against Virginia Tech. He is 4-3 with a 2.05 ERA and has 53 strikeouts over 57 innings. He is second in the Big Ten in innings, third in strikeouts, and fourth in ERA.

Allgeyer is the second Hawkeye to earn Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honor this season. Junior Brady Schanuel was the Co-Pitcher of the Week on March 26.

Iowa returns to action Tuesday, hosting Northern Illinois at 4:05 p.m. (CT) at Duane Banks Field.  The Hawkeyes return to Big Ten action this weekend, traveling to Minneapolis for a three-game series at No. 25 Minnesota.
