ANAMOSA, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- The Iowa Department of Corrections said an inmate assaulted a correctional officer at the Anamosa State Penitentiary Sunday.
According to a news release, around 6:40 p.m. the officer was working with a team of officers when the inmate used his head to hit the officer in the face. The inmate then bit the officers forearm. Officers restrained the inmate moments later.
Prison medical personnel assessed the injured officer and he returned to duty. But after experiencing concussion-like symptoms, the officer went to a hospital where emergency room staff determined he had a concussion from the head-butt.
Officers continue to investigate the incident and have not yet named the officer or the inmate.
