CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- A fire destroyed a home and killed a cat Monday afternoon.
Cedar Rapids firefighters said it happened just before 3 p.m. at 506 27th Avenue SW. Crews found heavy smoke coming from the structure when they arrived. They said it took some time to make progress on the spreading fire due to the layout of the interior and construction materials inside the house.
No one was home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries. Firefighters retrieved a cat from the house, but it did not survive.
Firefighters have not yet determined a cause for the fire.
