(Des Moines, IA) -- 112 cases of Cyclosporiasis have been diagnosed in Iowa this year. But state health officials don't believe they are related to the national outbreak.
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services says 110 cases of the intestinal parasite have been confirmed since May 1rst and two people have been hospitalized.
HHS says about half of those infected traveled internationally.
While the agency hasn't confirmed the Iowa cases are part of the national outbreak, they say that might change once they complete interviews of those infected.
Lettuce served at Taco Bell is being linked to the multi-state outbreak.
Reports indicate health officials are investigating shredded iceberg lettuce supplied to Taco Bell by Taylor Farms as a possible source.
The CDC says there are have been thousands of confirmed cases of the illness in 34 states.
Over 1,600 people have been infected in Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, Indiana and Kentucky.
