(Iowa) -- 14 Iowa state beaches are currently not recommended for swimming following the latest round of water quality testing by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
According to the DNR, water samples collected at the beaches showed elevated levels of E. coli bacteria or harmful algal toxins, which can pose health risks to swimmers.
The DNR monitors water quality at state beaches each week from the week before Memorial Day through Labor Day and updates beach advisories every Friday.
