(Iowa) -- The U.S. men's soccer team's run in the World Cup may be over, but there's reason for optimism among sports fans in Iowa.
Smilehub used 20 key metrics to rank the best states in the country for sports lovers. Iowa came in at number 10 overall on the list, ranking 3rd best in the nation for sports-related degrees awarded per capita and 7th best for sports-related jobs per capita. Iowa also scored well in the number of sports and recreation charities statewide and overall access to sports.
Iowa's rankings on the study's internal metrics include:
- 27th – Number of Professional Teams
- 17th – Sports & Recreation Charities per Capita
- 3rd – Sports-Related Degrees Awarded per Capita
- 7th – Sports-Related Jobs per Capita
- 25th – Sports Clubs per Capita
- 27th – Sports Scholarships per Capita
