Former Iowa State Librarian Gets Probation in Inappropriate Photo Case

(Des Moines, IA) — A former state librarian will not go to prison after pleading guilty to sending inappropriate videos to an undercover police officer. 55-year-old Michael Scott of the Des Moines area was arrested in the fall after allegedly using social media to send the videos to someone he believed was a 14-year-old boy, who was actually a Florida police officer. He pled guilty to two misdemeanor charges earlier this year. Prosecutors sought prison time, but a judge sentenced him to two years of probation instead. The state is still seeking a replacement for the state librarian position.
