Charges Pending in Northern Iowa Animal Neglect Case

(Chickasaw County, Iowa) -- The Chickasaw County Sheriff's Office says dozens of animals have been surrendered after an animal neglect investigation.

The Sheriff's Office says they received a report of possible animal neglect on May 18th at a home in Alta Vista. Deputies conducted a four day investigation, and on May 23rd, the homeowner surrendered all the animals on the property, including 23 dogs, 5 cats, as well as geese, ducks, and chickens. Investigators also found 4 deceased dogs at the scene.

The dogs and cats surrendered are being cared for at the Cedar Bend Humane Society in Waterloo. Criminal charges against the homeowner are pending.
