Garbage truck driver injured when Amtrak train hits his truck in Monroe Co.

(Monroe County, IA) -- A garbage truck driver is taken by medical hospital from the scene of a crash in Monroe County after his truck was hit by an Amtrak train.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says just after 11:30 Wednesday morning a 911 call came in reporting a crash on 160th Street, northeast of Albia, involving an Amtrak train and a garbage truck. The driver of the truck was airlifted from the scene. The train’s engineer was treated and released at the scene. No injuries were reported among the passengers. The names of the truck driver and engineer have not been released at this time.

The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
