Iowa officers injured in high speed chase with wanted sex offender

(Muscatine County, IA) -- Two eastern Iowa police officers are recovering after an encounter with a wanted sex offender, who led officers on a high speed chase. It ended with the man slamming into a police vehicle and swallowing meth.

It started Wednesday night, when A Wapello police officer tried to pull over a 2005 Buick Century for multiple traffic violations. The driver briefly pulled into a tow service business, but then went back to the car and nearly hit the Wapello Police squad car.

Police say driver, later identified as registered sex offender, 30-year-old Timothy Dickinson of Davenport, refused to stop. Police say his car window was shattered as an officer tried to subdue him, that officer was injured. Police say Dickinson then led officers on a chase reaching speeds of 90-to-100 miles per hour through Wapello on Highway 61. The car continued into Louisa County, reaching speeds of over 110 mph for over 15 miles.

Police say during the chase, Dickinson and a female passenger tossed full bottles of pop at the officers.

Dickinson continued into Muscatine County, and crossed over into oncoming traffic at one point. He drove around stop sticks, but eventually lost control and crashed into a Muscatine County Deputy Sheriff's vehicle. A deputy near the vehicle sustained minor injuries.

Police say Dickinson continued to resist arrest and was uncooperative, and was subdued by a Taser and multiple Officers and Deputies, and taken into custody.

Police say Dickinson was found with over 7 grams of methamphetamine, paraphernalia, and admitted swallowing 3.5 grams of methamphetamine.

Both subjects were provided medical attention. Both law enforcement Officers received minor injuries and are back on duty.

Dickinson is charged with the following:

Possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Class B Felony

Eluding- Injury/OWI- Class D Felony

Interference with official acts- Officer Injury- Serious Misdemeanor

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia- Simple misdemeanor

Reckless driving- Simple Misdemeanor

Speeding, no insurance, no driver’s license, defective muffler, no seat belt, driving on wrong side of highway, and littering- all simple misdemeanors

Further felony charges are forthcoming by the Iowa State Patrol and Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office.

Dickinson remains at the Louisa County Jail on a $75,000 cash only bond as well as having multiple outstanding arrest warrants.
