National Weather Service

Des Moines, IA -- We could set new temperatures this weekend, and then comes the snow.

"We're looking at an extended period of cold weather here, pretty unusual for this time of year." National Weather Service Meteorologist Cory Martin said.

"Looks like our coldest stretch will be Sunday night through Tuesday time frame. We could see some daily cold temperature records during that time." Said Martin.

From west to east:

The Omaha, Nebraska /Council Bluffs, Iowa area could get 2-3 inches. Maybe 5 inches is possible in Northeastern Nebraska.

Des Moines and Ames in Central Iowa may see 1-2 inches. The northwest third of Iowa is likely to see 4-6 inches of snow roughly in the area north of I-80 and west of I-35.

Less than an inch of snow is likely in Eastern Iowa, including Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.

Snow is not likely in the Quad Cities on the Iowa / Illinois border.
