IOWA CITY, Iowa - Iowa City Mayor Teague is joining other mayors in Big Ten Conference cities to sign an open letter about safety concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The letter asks the conference to work with local health departments to determine when COVID-19 rates make football games too dangerous to hold.
It also asks the conference to announce the full season schedule, along with game times. Thus far, the conference has only released game times for the first two weeks of the season.
In addition, the letter seeks to have the Big Ten not schedule games at night or in the evening when there's a possibility of increased social gatherings and alcohol consumption.
All but five Big Ten Conference city mayors signed the letter. including Lincoln, Nebraska Mayor Leirion Baird (University of Nebraska).
