Waka Flocka Now Has An Honorary Doctorate Degree

Dr. Waka Flocka has entered the building!

The Atlanta rapper reached an amazing life milestone over the weekend, as Waka was awarded an honorary doctorate degree in philanthropy and humanitarianism.

The “No Hands” star captured the proud moment in an Instagram post. “I got Honorary Doctorate in Philanthropy and Humanitarianism... my work just beginning!!!” he captioned an image of him donning his cap and gown at the ceremony.

Other videos posted to his Instagram Stories also showed the “Round of Applause” musician accepting the honor with a look of sheer amazement.

For clarification, while it isn't traditional that recipients of honorary doctorates use the prefix “Dr” in general conversations, previous honorary doctorate recipients — such as the late Dr. Maya Angelou — have preferred to use the title when being formally addressed.

Waka is just one of the few rappers who have received such recognition from institutions of higher education. In 2019, Missy Elliott became the first rapper to receive an honorary Doctor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music, alongside Justin Timberlake. Diddy also received a doctorate in humanities from Howard University and Kanye West previously accepted an honorary doctorate in fine arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Way to go, Dr. Waka!
