Iowa Surpasses 29,000 COVID-19 Cases With 349 New Cases

DES MOINES, Iowa - The are 349 new cases of COVID-19 in Iowa as of Wednesday at 10 a.m., and five additional deaths.

There are 29,290 total cases, as 3,774 tests were conducted Tuesday with a positive test rate for the day of 6.4 percent. There have been a total of 717 deaths statewide.

Daily reported deaths and hospitalizations have generally been falling over the past several weeks.

Iowa officials have acknowledged a rise in cases among adults age 18-40.

Governor Kim Reynolds said that age group has always led others, in terms of positive cases. The positive rate among this group has gone from 41-percent in April to 45-percent in May, and 55-percent this month, in June.

A total of 308,658 COVID-19 tests conducted in Iowa, and one-in-10 Iowans has been tested.

There have been 23,447 recoveries from the virus in the state. Governor Reynolds announced Tuesday that the metrics for determining recoveries was changed. Because of the change, the recovery rate has jumped from 62 percent earlier in the week to 80 percent Wednesday.

The state is reporting COVID-19 outbreaks at 20 long term care centers, down six from Monday. There have been 366 long term care center deaths, accounting for 51 percent of the state total.

There are 149 hospitalizations from the virus. There are 37 ICU patients with 21 on ventilators.

The numbers for the state only represent COVID-19 figures compiled by the Iowa Department of Public Health. Unreported cases and deaths could make the actual figures different.
