Suspect in Cedar Rapids shooting was stabbed in the head by his mother

Police in Cedar Rapids say the suspect in a Saturday night shooting was stabbed in the head by his mother earlier in the day.

Cedar Rapids Police say 20 year old Dondre’ Lee was arrested Sunday morning following a shooting at the Westdale Court Apartments. Lee is charged with five counts of attempted murder, along with one count of first-degree burglary, going armed with intent and carrying weapons.

Police say around 6:30 Saturday night, officers were called to the apartments following a report of a shooting at the complex near 20th Avenue SW and Wiley Blvd SW. Investigators say Lee shot at five people inside an apartment, hitting a 43 year old man in the arm. The man was transported to the hospital by private vehicle.

Cedar Rapids Police say earlier in the day, Lee was the victim of a stabbing when his mother, 34 year old Dominique Lee, stabbed him in the head around 2:00 AM. Dominique was arrested and charged with domestic assault causing bodily injury with a dangerous weapon and providing false information.

Officers do not believe the stabbing and the shooting are related incidents. Both suspects are being held at the Linn County Jail.
