Iowa Workforce Development changes paid leave rules for unemployment

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Iowans filing for unemployment because of the COVID-19 coronavirus won't have to use paid leave from their employers before being eligible for benefits.

Iowa Workforce Development says the paid leave policy helped sustain the employer-funded unemployment trust fund, which is now being covered by the the federal CARES Act.

President Trump signed the massive relief bill into law last Friday.

Iowa Workforce Development says the policy took Monday, March 30, 2020 and is not retroactive.
