Iowa farmers make most of dry days

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Iowa farmers made the most of last week's dry weather.

"15 percent of the corn crop is harvested, versus seven percent last week. The big news, though, is that we're 48 percent harvested on soybeans, versus 17 last week" says Iowa Agriculture Secretary Mike Naig.

Naig says the new Weekly Crop Report shows that about a third of the state's soybean crop was harvested in just a week's time.

He that for the first time all season, this year's soybean crop is actually ahead of last year.

"The caveat, of course, is that the 2018 harvest season was also slowed by wet conditions" Naig says.

Naig says rain across the state early this week is sure to slow the harvest's progress
